ABOUT HANUMAN
The Hindu monkey god Hanuman represents ease in travel, change when the situation calls for it, being happy and content, physical strength, devotion, agility, willpower, persistence in learning, and a good sense of humor. At Hanuman Yoga Retreat, we strive to embody these qualities within ourselves and to share with others.

We love to make our retreats diverse by offering unique self-care and healing modalities. These include: various styles of yoga, meditation, QiGong, TRE, family constellations, JourneyDance, and InnerDance energy work. It is not necessary to have even heard of these modalities, but more the willingness to simply show up and see what happens. The more modalities you experience, the more this opens you up from the inside out.
MY PERSONAL JOURNEY
Yoga led me to meditation, and then a curiosity to try (and then get trained in) other modalities-- JourneyDance, QiGong, TRE/tension-trauma release exercises, innerdance energy work, craniosacral therapy, and family constellations. It didn't come easy though. I lacked body awareness and flexibility when I started yoga 18 years ago. I didn't understand meditation for many years. I stayed closed in my energy and couldn't relax or let go. Gradually, then rapidly, things started to shift, to release, a peeling back of the layers. In pursuing these different modalities, my self-care, awareness, and healing started to expand. All this receiving has then been given back into my work: Hanuman Yoga Retreat.
It's interesting to see how much my retreats have evolved over the past seven years. Although I now offer more than yoga, I regard it as a home base, a safe container, a stepping stone into a possible deeper journey. And that's really what I want to offer to others—creating a warm community; supporting people where they are at instead of where I want them to be (or where they want to be); getting people to notice their patterns; inviting in the present moment; and building a healthy relationship with yourself.

Thank you for this retreat. I have learned a great practice in the last week both through yoga and self insight. The meditation that you have instructed has helped me in reconnecting with my inner self and I feel stronger and at peace. This retreat has made a significant impact on my life and wellbeing. Thank you from my heart. —Cathryn, Australia I have tried 7-8 yoga teachers during the past 12 months. Tammy is my favorite teacher. Her instructions are precise and clear. I love her calm voice, the fact that she knows a wide selection of poses. She makes sure that both beginners and more advanced students are able to participate at their own level." —Agnes, Hungary "You are in great hands with the retreat facilitator, Tammy. She is super organized, very knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor! She will meet you where you are at and will ensure you havea an incredible experience!" ~Julia, Russia "Tammy is a gifted teacher and healer. What drew me to the retreat was all the different modalities Tammy was offering. From Hatha Yoga to QiGong, Partner Yoga to TRE, Innerdance and Journey Dance, and meditation, each modality was a new way to explore self and body. The introduction to these modalities did not disappoint. Tammy taught with humor, insight, kindness and careful directions. Her attention to detail not only for her classes, but for every aspect of her participants' experiences ensured that everyone had the experience they sought. I can't recommend highly enough a yoga retreat with Tammy. Hanuman Yoga Retreats are a unique opportunity to relax, connect with the body and meet some interesting fellow travelers." ~ JD, USA |
Since the launch of Hanuman Yoga Retreat in 2013, Tammy has led retreats in Bali, Thailand, Mexico, Hawaii, Vietnam, and California. Tammy's extensive training has built an integrative approach to offering self-care and healing.
Tammy completed a 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training course at White Lotus Foundation under the grace and wisdom of Ganga and Tracy White. Since then, she has introduced yoga to school communities, served as a volunteer movement instructor at New Life Foundation (a mindful recovery center in Thailand), and taught people from dozens of nationalities. Tammy currently divides her time between Asia and USA. Tammy first discovered JourneyDance™ as a volunteer resident at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. The power of music and dance, combined with imagery and self-awareness, awakened an inner spirit within her. Highly motivated to dive deeper into this experience, Tammy completed Module 1 of JourneyDance™ teacher training with the radiant Toni Bergins. Tammy places the art of QiGong somewhere between yoga and dance. Tammy has studied under her father, a QiGong practitioner in California. She also completed the first level of QiGong/Tai Chi training under Master Wing Cheung. Tammy practices a variety of styles, including Chow QiGong, Shenzen, and Shibashi. In 2014, Tammy spent two weeks at Bahay Kalipay, the Philippines. She has integrated many of their nutritional and healthy lifestyle tips into her own daily routine, such as the many uses of coconut oil. Tammy completed the 5 day Inner Dance Energy School, led by its creator Pi Villaraza. Inner Dance has the potential to expand one's consciousness and unleash suppressed emotions and old pain. It is a modality of awakening, healing, clarity, and insight. Tammy is a certified TRE® (trauma-tension release exercise) Level II Provider. This modality activates from a physiological point to release physical, emotional, and mental stress by creating involuntary tremors in the body. Participants report feeling relaxed and rid of blockages afterwards. For more information, visit the TRE® website. In 2017, Tammy completed Module 1 of Biodynamics Craniosacral Therapy. This was a pivotal point in her work, to discover that the simple act of listening and holding space could allow the body to rebalance itself. Tammy furthered her training with Stefan Reiter, a German trainer who holds a wholistic approach of working with the body through the wisdom of yoga, meditation, family constellations, anatomy, and energy fields. Tammy's interest in Family Constellations started in 2013. She developed her curiosity by attending constellation workshops, retreats, and intensives with top facilitators. In 2019, Tammy completed 'Constellations for 1:1" with Leslie Nipps. In 2020, she completed her training in 'Advanced Family Constellations' with Leslie Nipps. Family constellations has been all-encompassing of her modalities by bringing in presence, trauma work, body awareness, self-regulation, and energy work into healing. Tammy is an advocate for goodwill and has volunteered with numerous organizations: Peace Corps Namibia, Help International Phi Phi, American Assistance for Cambodia, Habitat for Humanity in the Philippines and Malaysia, New Life Foundation, Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, and the tsunami relief in Japan. She supports New Life Foundation, Bandekdee Children's Home, and Vieng Ping Orphanage. Her interests include: Tibet, Buddhism, food, naps, and baths.
