----- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS! ----
Q: I'm a little nervous about joining this retreat. I'm not sure if I will fit in. How do I know if this retreat is right for me?
A: Our past New Year's Retreat participants have ranged in ages 20-60, men, women, various nationalities, single travelers, mother/adult daughters, couples, lawyers, artists, doctors, teachers, and everything else in between. :) The more diverse, the merrier! This is not a yoga or meditation boot camp! This is a retreat-- you have chosen to take a break, to rest, restore, and care for yourself. If you do have yoga experience...the classes will still be gentle and/or moderate. This is the intention of the retreat.
Q: Do I need to join all the sessions?
A: Absolutely not. Everything is optional! To get the most out of the retreat program, we do recommend trying to attend as many sessions as you are up for. This helps to develop a natural self-care routine when you return home. People who participate feel more connected to the group.
Q: What should I bring?
A: San Pancho, Mexico has a casual and tropical atmosphere. Comfortable, light, breathable clothes for yoga/meditation are recommended. Bring day wear, light layer for cool mornings/evenings and swim wear. Some people like to dress up for dinner or to go into town, but this is not required. Wear footwear that is easy to slip on and off for entering/exiting the yoga/meditation room. Bring appropriate footwear for the New Year's day hike. A hat, sunscreen, mosquito repellant, water bottle, a journal, and a flashlight are all handy. Yoga mats and props are provided.
Q: What will the meals be like?
A: Breakfast will consist of: coffee/tea, juice, fruit, and hot/cold items made-to-order. Lunch and dinner will be feature Nayarit inspired meals with vegetarian and other dietary options available. (Please let us know in advance of your dietary needs.)
Q: How much money should I bring?
A: You will need Mexican pesos if you go into town for shopping, spa treatments, and dining. Most businesses don't accept credit cards. Exchange your currency at the Puerto Vallarta airport or Sayulita town. These services are not available in San Pancho. USD $100-$125 for the week is recommended for average spending on souvenirs, snacks, and spa treatments.
Q: What is the gratuity?
A: Tips for the housekeeping and the kitchen staff are appreciated and accepted in Mexican pesos or US dollars. There will be a tipping jar available if you'd like to contribute. USD $70-$90 for the week is what guests typically leave for a week's stay.
Q: Is Mexico safe?
A: Absolutely! I have held retreats in Mexico every year for the past seven years, and I always look forward to being back. Mexicans are some of the most genuinely warm, good-hearted, and kind people you'll ever meet. I feel very comfortable traveling solo in Mexico, taking local transport, and eating at street stalls-- and that's without knowing any Spanish! Please don't believe any negative press about Mexico or Mexicans. I can assure you that you will be charmed by this country!

At Maraica Eco-Hotel, cleanliness and safety is of top importance. Healthy distance protocols are respected between staff and guests. Anti-bacterial gel have been placed in all common areas. A 24-hour temperature-taking stand is available on-site, and doctor referrals can be made upon request. Retreat guests will not be asked to wear face masks on the property, but it may be required off-site. Maraica Hotel is located in San Pancho, in the state of Nayarit. Puerto Vallarta is located in the state of Jalisco. Both regions have very low cases of COVID per 100,000 residents. You can check the daily update on all states of Mexico here.
If the retreat is cancelled by Hanuman Yoga Retreat or Maraica Hotel, a full refund (minus $15 processing fee) will be returned to the guest. Hanuman Yoga Retreat and Maraica Hotel will not be held liable for any loss due to the cancellation of the retreat (ie. airfare, lost vacation days, work-related issues, etc.).
Currently, there is no COVID testing or quarantine required to enter Mexico. On your flight, you will be given a brief health form to fill out before landing at Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). Your temperature will be taken upon arrival at the airport. You will be picked up at the airport by Maraica's drivers and taken directly to the hotel. In early Sept. 2020, I personally visited Maraica Hotel and the surrounding areas (San Pancho, Sayulita, Puerto Vallarta). My time there was wonderful, and it was the perfect place to rest, restore, and rejuvenate. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Also, please check if your country, workplace, etc. will suggest quarantine after your trip.
Because life is unpredictable, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance.

Some things to note:
- Your home country health insurance (ie. USA) does not cover medical expenses when you are in another country (ie. traveling in Mexico)
- If you have global health insurance, check what countries it covers and does not cover.
- Most credit cards include basic travel insurance at no additional cost (ie. trip delays, cancellation, interruptions, lost luggage, rental car damage). However, check for policy updates due to COVID.
- I recommend purchasing additional travel insurance. This covers emergency medical and dental expenses and emergency evacuation/repatriation. It does not cover non-emergencies such as a routine physical exam , spa treatments , or any pre-existing conditions .
